THE QUEEN KATHERINE MULTI-ACADEMY TRUST
The Queen Katherine Multi-Academy Trust (QKS MAT) was established in 2013/2014 and is committed to providing high quality education and the best learning experiences and outcomes for all the students in our three schools. The QKS MAT operates across a diverse geographical area across South Cumbria, covering Kendal in the South East of the Lake District National Park and Walney Island, Barrow-in-Furness on the Furness Peninsular.
The Queen Katherine School, Kendal, an 11-18 comprehensive school became a converter Academy in 2011 and a Multi-Academy trust in 2013/2014
Walney School, an 11-16 comprehensive school, joined the MAT in 2014
George Hastwell School, Walney, a special educational needs school for 3-19, joined the MAT in September 2015.
The QKS MAT is committed to ensuring that all children in our schools, of all abilities, receive excellent teaching and make strong progress. The purpose of the MAT is to support schools to develop to “Outstanding” and ensure the rapid improvement of schools that need support. The MAT facilitates this through high quality professional development for teachers and school leaders, the sharing of best practice, and economies of scale achieved across the group of Schools.
The MAT is at a very exciting stage in its development as its three schools are rapidly improving and working towards our vision of delivering the best educational experiences for all young people. We aim to be in a position to bring additional schools into the MAT in two years’ time. The MAT will act as the lead sponsor for any school joining which elects to become an academy or is directed to become a sponsored academy by the Department for Education.
For every school in our Multi-Academy Trust to be an exceptional school, providing a first class education for every child, so that they can achieve their full potential, gaining qualifications and life skills which lead to a bright and fulfilling future.
To ensure our schools deliver the best educational experiences for all young people through the development of outstanding practice.
To share the best skills, expertise and experiences from all of our schools, working together to raise standards while at the same time retaining the distinctiveness of each school.
For the QKSMAT to be nationally recognised for achieving educational excellence, providing local solutions for local schools.
